Redundant alternative text

Good practice, not a failure

Some images have alt text that repeats adjacent text, or starts with "image of".

Why it matters

A screen reader already announces that the element is an image, so "image of red t-shirt" comes out as "image, image of red t-shirt". And if the alt repeats the title printed right below it, the person hears the same words twice for every product in the grid.

How to fix it

Drop the "image of" / "photo of" prefix. If the image sits inside a link that already has visible text saying the same thing, use an empty alt.

As it is
<a href="/p/1">
  <img src="/p1.jpg" alt="Image of sand t-shirt">
  <h3>Sand t-shirt</h3>
</a>
As it should be
<a href="/p/1">
  <img src="/p1.jpg" alt="">
  <h3>Sand t-shirt</h3>
</a>
