An accessibility overlay is installed

This page loads an accessibility overlay from {vendor}.

Why it matters

These widgets layer controls (bigger text, higher contrast) on top of a site that still has all its original barriers underneath. They do not fix the code; they cover it. In January 2025 the US FTC fined the best-known vendor $1 million for claiming its widget delivered compliance. European authorities assess the page, not the widget sitting on it.

You are paying a monthly fee for something that does not protect you. That budget covers a good share of the actual fixes.

How to fix it

You do not have to uninstall it today, but do not count it as legal cover. Fix the real barriers in your theme: alt text, form labels, contrast and keyboard navigation. Once those are fixed, the widget is redundant.
