Links with generic text
WCAG 2.4.4 (A) · EN 301 549 9.2.4.4
Some links read "read more", "click here", "learn more" or similar.
Why it matters
Out of context that text says nothing. In the link list a screen reader generates, a category page turns into twenty identical entries all saying "read more".
Link text is one of the signals Google uses to understand the destination page. "Read more" tells it nothing either.
How to fix it
Put the destination in the link itself: "See the organic cotton t-shirt". If the design demands keeping "Read more" visible, add a full aria-label.
<h3>Sand t-shirt</h3>
<a href="/p/1">Read more</a><h3>Sand t-shirt</h3>
<a href="/p/1" aria-label="See the sand t-shirt">Read more</a>
<!-- Better still -->
<a href="/p/1">See the sand t-shirt</a>Related
